are the two New Yorkers Alex Frankel and Nicholas Millhiser, who worked together in the leftfield hiphop band Automato. Nowadays it’s their mutual love for disco music that keeps them bonded. Their enthusiasm for analogue equipment, rare disco records and antiqued production techniques is equally shared by their label honchos at DFA Records.

N: You mean, like, before I go out? For some reason I’ve been craving «Never Going Back» before I leave the house. Last night I listened to it, like, 10 times before I went out.

N: I’ve never been on a real important date. It sounds stressful though.
A: Never have.
N: Well, we never have in any sort of intentional, rock star way. But we’ve left plenty of hotel rooms littered with empty Pizza boxes, half eaten kebab and beer bottles made into makeshift ashtrays.
A: My neighbors are my landlords.
N: My neighbors rule. Alex and I have a studio in my house and often work very loudly late into the night and they NEVER complain. I can’t seem to phase them. Actually, ONCE, she came down and asked us to stop because she had a migraine. So, I guess the answer would be whatever Holy Ghost! song we were working on at the time.

N: To be honest, I listen to Holy Ghost! demoes. I find it easy to concentrate on the train and when I was in school I would save my most dreaded reading for subway rides. Some of my most productive solutions for troublesome HG! songs have come to be while riding the MTA.
